Adding Linear Scale To 0i-TC Control.

Hello,

I want to add a linear scale to my lathe's X axis. I purchased a Mitutoyo AT332-300 scale and a Fanuc SDU1 unit. Can I add a scale to just one axis or do I need to add it to both? Do I have the correct items to do this? Once I have it installed, what parameters do I need to change?

As always, thank you for your help!

Should be no problem adding a scale to only one axis. On machines I've worked on we also needed what's called a Separate Detection unit to plug the scales into. Not sure if its needed on your control or not.

For a 16i I'm currently working on these are the parameters I change to switch back and forth from the motor to scale feedback.

1815 bit 1 Enable disable Scale
1821 Reference Counter
2003 bit 1 Soft Disconnect Alarm Set By Parameter
2018 bit 0 Reverse scale direction
2024 Number of position pulses
2064 Soft Disconnect Threshold level
2084 N
2085 M
2185 Position Pulse Conversion Coefficient

For you application you may need all or some of these. Also I've never worked on a 0i control so the parameter numbers are likely different as well.

Oh just noticed you have the SDU1 unit or Separate Detection Unit so you will also have to modify your FSSB parameters so the control will communicate with that device.

Hi Mustang,

Thanks for the info. I see Mitutoyo uses different terminology then Fanuc. Listed below is the info I have ... how do I decipher what the 0i needs? Where do I find the FSSB parameters and is there info on what I need to change? I'm not a newbie as far as CNC controls are concerned, just a newbie at adding a scale.

Also wondering if adding a scale voids the Fanuc 2 year warranty.

Thanks

I have no experience on the 0i series at all current or legacy. For the powermates and 16i's that I've used there is a procedure for automatic FSSB setting that's detailed in the manuals. On these models the FSSB settings are listed in the system parameters in the 1900 range.

Did you have any Fanuc manuals for this machine ?
A copy of Idocs is well worth the money as it has pretty much every manual Fanuc has ever issued.
